Week 18 Preview
OK, let’s have a proper preview article now shall we? The Incumbent Think Like a Man has got to be done.  The biggest release of the week is also a romantic comedy and there’s no way that that battle shakes out so that the older movie comes out on top.  If anything it’s a strong case for both movies failing. Opening this weekend The Five-Year Engagement: There’s a ton...

Week 18 Preview Preview
I’m traveling today so I won’t be able to get an actual preview up until later in the day. In fact, by the time it goes up there might be preliminary box office data available. To preserve the integrity of the guessing process I want to pick The Five-Year Engagement right now. Help me keep the streak alive Jason Segel!

Week 17: Think Like a Man
I didn’t go into this movie thinking I was going to love it.  Whatever the target audience for this movie is it probably isn’t single white men.  I was totally unprepared for what Think Like a Man actually was: a movie I really didn’t like for wildly different reasons than I anticipated. I should probably start with its most egregious sin, it’s two an a half hours.  Ok...

Week 17 Preview
I’m on the road this week so I don’t have a ton of time.  I’m going to bang this out quickly.  Kind of a shame, there’s a bit of intrigue this week. The Incumbent I think it’s over for The Hunger Games.  It’s had a great run but time makes fools of us all. Much like an old boxer there’s always a chance it’ll throw one more knock out punch but...

Week 16: The Hunger Games
First things first, the drinking game was a complete and utter success. It will get you completely trashed if you are using any kind of serious drink. There’s a bit of a dead spot when they’re on the train when you don’t drink at all but I suspect that can be solved by adding a drink every time Haymitch pours a drink. It adds two drinks to the overall count so it won’t...

Week 16 Preview
This is another head scratcher of a week.  I really don’t know what to make of it.  Let’s consider the pieces. The Incumbent This week is way more about The Hunger Games than it is about the movies opening.  It’s certainly more than capable of beating the lackluster competition this weekend but can it overcome the fact that just about the entire potential audience has seen it?...

Week 15: The Hunger Games
I was completely out of ideas for new things to say about The Hunger Games.  I thought I had already had a good solid arc with this movie.  I didn’t get it, I read the book then I got it.  What else is there to say?  I got a few suggestions from friends and family but they all seemed like either too much work or too high concept or both.  Then it hit me: I could play a drinking game.   It...

Week 15 Preview
I’ve picked the number one movie six weeks in a row.  Six!  Ok so the last two were gimmes and so was the first week of The Lorax and 21 Jump Street had a certain air of inevitability but I’m still taking a lot of credit for this.  I’m amazing.  I bring this up because there’s a big chance I’m going to snap this streak this week and I want to make sure I boast about...

Week 14: The Hunger Games
I posted my article on The Hunger Games last week and then dedicated myself to understanding the movie I didn’t get.  I “borrowed” the ebook from Amazon and read it over parts of three days (I was timing it on a stopwatch and it took four hours 29 minutes and 27.7 seconds).  When I went to see the movie again on Monday morning it was with a new appreciation of the source material...
